| Okay. I'm wondering how many role players keep track of this forum. If you are a role player and see this please post below with your games of choice. Oh, and have a nice day! |

I, and two friends, would like to see 4th Edition ADD being played and evaluate whether or not to make the transition from 2nd Edition. Is there a scheduled game coming up in the next few weeks?
I don't see anything on the Events Calander.
Thanks, Travis |

I'll get Andy to post up here for ya. He knows a ton about it.
Personally, i think the coolest character would be a cross between Aquaman and Michael Jackson (i call him: Aqua-Jackson), but i'm not sure that be done in 4.0. |

idk i really dislike 4E, its a horrid system less skilled, its basically like your playing with superheroes rather then d&d characters, it presents no challenge to the players |

Hey Rob, I think that maybe COULD work, if you used an aquatic elf bard. Just sayin... |

Frankly, that depends on the GM. If you've got a GM with a good grasp on the system, he can screw you over in 4E just as well as in 3.5. HOWEVER, that doesn't change the fact that I just dont much care for the 4E system. |

~Newbie Alert~ So um... how do gamers (non-RPG) get involved in this? I have absolute inspiration and excitement from listening to Penny Arcade's podcasts with Wil Wheaton/D&D for the past year!

Hello,
I am interested in D&D but have never played. Is there a way to kind of try it out and see if it is something I would enjoy without having to make any huge commitments?
Thanks for any help/advice |

Hops,
First off, awesome to see a fellow Who aficionado! Personally I still prefer David Tennant, but the newbie is doing pretty darn good too.
Secondly, do you really want to play D&D, or would you be interested in playing Pathfinder, or another Fantasy RPG? I might be persuaded to run a Pathfinder one-shot at the Ogre, but you can't get me to touch D&D 4E with a 10 ft quarterstaff. |

A One-Shot is a one-time game with no long-term commitments. I would bring in some pre-generated characters, probably at a relatively low level, and run you through a few typical encounters.
One-Shots are used for a variety of reasons: To give new players a taste of the game, to allow GMs to experiment with a new rule or monster, or simply to experiment with a new way of playing, without committing to it long-term.
As for Pathfinder, it is essentially D&D 3.75. Paizo bought the rights to the 3.5 system, and they fixed some of the issues that players had with it. What's awesome about this is that you can either switch to running Pathfinder exclusively (which I did), or you can use elements of your expanded 3.5 library (which a GM I'm playing with does). Either way is fine, and Pathfinder was built to be compatible with either style.
You can even play a 3.5 game with elements of Pathfinder, if you want to! |

well cool that sounds like it could be fun. My wife and I would be interested in giving it a shot. We are a bit nervous about playing, but think it could be something we might enjoy (which is why we would like to give it a test run). Thanks for the help, now we'll have to work on setting something up I suppose. All I know for sure right now is that we would not be able to do it on a tuesday or during "banking hours" on weekdays.
also, good on you for getting my quote. ha ha |

I'm free pretty much all weekdays from 4 onwards. Weekends are hard for me b/c I've usually got them planned out in advance... I don't have a free weekend until August 14th (although I can probably squeeze in a late Sunday time in a pinch on most weekends).
If it comes down to needing to be run on a weekend, don't bother holding up for me. I'm curious to try out Pathfinder, but I'll be fine without it too. |
